The market was busier today, which didn't surprise him since it was the day of the first festival in years since Hybern attacked. The last battle took place two years ago and while the Dawn Court wasn't as ravaged by war as the other courts, there were still repairs to be made, bodies to be buried, and lives to piece together. Soren's uncle, Thesan, decided that it was time for a festival to celebrate a new day. That's what Dawn was about, wasn't it? New days. New beginnings. The festival took months to plan and even longer to put together until it was ready. Soren had not been part of the planning, instead, he was instructed to visit other courts and High Lords to talk politics. He had been stuck in Dawn Court for years, his uncle afraid that something would happen to him, until the war was finally over and the battle won. Soren was glad for the reprieve, though he was wary of traveling to meet with other High Lords. He himself was not a High Lord, but he was next in line. Assuming that Thesan did not bore an offspring. It didn't matter to Soren either way. He had been bred for this, but if another took his place, he would be just as happy. Taking charge and being a High Lord was a lot of pressure and stress that Soren would gladly pass over to someone else if they wanted it. He walked through the street, everyone waving at him and stopping to say hello. Everyone knew Soren. He liked to introduce himself to his people. Many of them handed him gifts as he walked, flower petals flowing over them like rain. He handed the gifts to his friends for them to hold, he didn't like to call them servants. There was music and dancing, and food, and vendors with many things for sale. But towards the end of the street, he saw a tent that looked different from the other vendors with their bright colors and open tables. Soren looked at the tent door, his eyes glancing over the heavy drapes and then the darkness within. There was no sign by the door letting others know what would await them inside. Soren looked at his friends who offered no advice, though most of them backed away. Like him, they were afraid of things that were different. "Please take those up to my rooms, I'll follow shortly," he said and turned back towards the mysterious tent. He was aware of his friends leaving him and standing alone. "Hmm." He breathed and turned away finally from the entryway of the tent. Perhaps some other day, he thought. As he was about to turn back to the rest of the festival, he saw a shadow. Soren stopped, his head turning in the direction of the shadow, "hello?" TAG: Valeria

Valeria had left the Spring Court the same day, utterly clueless as to what she was going to do with Tamlin. There was lynching, but she could also burn him alive or skin him. Another part of her wanted to break his spirit even more than it already was. She hadn't expected to meet a wreck of a male, so it was safe to say that she was confused. She'd decided to explore Prythian, knowing that it would take a long time before she dared go back to her family. Somehow she'd ended up in the Dawn court, right in time for a festival. Valeria certainly knew how to drink. There had been a period in her life when she drank nonstop for 30 years. She wasn't in that kind of mindset anymore though, but still enjoyed to get drunk from time to time. Despite her cheerful, cold self, Valeria had only lasted thirty minutes in the streets before deciding that she wanted a tent to herself where she could drink in quiet. So she'd opted for the one that was the furthest away from all the festivities and then simply made the vendor decide to take the rest of the day off. It was times like these when she loved her Daemati abilities. Although the best part was that no one even knew she had them. Ria grinned to herself as she slung her feet up on the table, and leaned back in her chair. She'd brought two bottles of wine with her with every intention of drinking them both. She had just taken a sip from the first bottle when someone called out in the dark. Ria glared at the shadow that she saw approaching, her shoulders slightly slumping forward in disappointment. "Yes, hello. This tent is occupied. Shoo somewhere else", she replied back and turned her attention back to her bottle.

Soren looked around, his eyebrows knit together in confusion. No one had ever talked to him in that manner, not since he had been a small boy when his parents were alive. He thought about doing what the voice said, he wouldn't usually approach something he had no knowledge of. But the fact that they had talked to him in that way, regardless of whether she knew him or not, had shocked him. Not that he didn't think people spoke this way all the time, but that it had been directed at him was surprising. He walked into the tent, his eyes adjusting quickly to find the woman sitting on a chair with her feet up on the table. "Apologies for the intrusion, but who are you?" TAGS: Valeria

Valeria blinked, hardly believing what was happening. It wasn't that big of a surprise that the man decided to stay but it still annoyed her. She exhaled loudly and drank some more of her wine before staring back at the male. "Apologies indeed", she said with a grin and looked him up and down. Handsome, like all Fae, although he seemed incredibly stiff somehow. She knew that she could always slip into his mind to figure out who he was but based on what she saw, he was nowhere near a threat. Her eyes lingered at his as she paused for a moment before speaking again. "I'm just a lady, trying to drink without being disturbed", Valeria said and gulped down some more of her wine, before returning her attention to him. "Yet here you are, disturbing my peace and quiet." She let down her feet from the table and scooted her chair closer to it before resting her chin on her fist, her eyes still locked on his.

Soren became even more perplexed. Did she not know who she was speaking to? What did he have to do, wear a crown on his head for everyone to kno-- he stopped his thoughts and took a deep breath. Everyone had been so nice to him most of his life, he just wasn't used to this type of behavior being directed at him. But he was not going to lower himself just because his emotions were getting riled up. He was Soren, the next in line to be the High Lord of Dawn Court. He was about to apologize again, but bit his lip. "Right," he breathed steadier. "I was just wondering about this tent, that's all. It looked different from the other ones and I had never seen it before. A little odd to have a black tent for a Dawn Court celebration, you know. Perhaps in the Night Court, but not here. What did you say your name was again?" TAGS: Valeria

Valeria kept looking at him, a small smile playing on her lips. "Hm." She nodded slightly and lifted the bottle to her lips. A drop rolled down her lips, but she quickly wiped it away with her thumb. "Well, I'm guessing the owner bought it from somewhere and then decided to put it up?" He was done for the day he said so he let me stay here. His name is Melkior if you want to ask him about the history of this big black tent", Valeria said with a shrug. She couldn't help but slip into his mind, having heard the night court get mentioned. A second was all she needed to know why he was suspicious. A prince indeed. That explained a lot. She shook her head, smiling apologetically. "How rude of me. I'm Mara", she told him and stretched out her hand for him to shake. She didn't bother standing up though. For all he knew, she had no idea who he was so she wasn't going to make a fuss of it now and bow down to the prince of the dawn court. As if that would ever happen.

"Melkoir," he repeated, trying to remember if he knew a Melkoir. There were so many people in Dawn Court and while he knew them all, most of them he could only remember by faces. Once he saw their face, he would remember their names. "Hm. Well that was nice of him, I suppose." He looked around to see what the man could have been selling, but it looked like had packed things up and taken everything with him except for a few pieces of furniture. Dawn Court wasn't known for thievery, but one can't be too careful, stealing is easy when no one expects it. He smiled, finally glad for her body language and tone of voice change to a less aggressive one. Perhaps he had just taken her by surprise, he was the one barging in on her, after all. "It's nice to meet you Mara," he shook her hand- soft, but not too soft that he thought she hadn't known work. When she didn't stand, he cleared his throat, "I'm Soren--" he stopped himself before fully introducing who he was. 'Soren, Prince of Dawn Court' It was oddly refreshing talking to someone who didn't know him as the prince. "I've never seen you here before, are you just passing by?" TAGS: Valeria

Valeria just gave him a slight nod in response. She took to the bottle again. She'd been going by the name Mara ever since the wall fell down, afraid that someone Fae might enter the mortal realms. Ever since then, it had stuck. Now she knew that the rest of Prythian thought she died 400 years ago and she didn't want them to think anything else. At least not for the time being.
"Soren", she repeated. "I've never met anyone called Soren before", she told him, being truthful for once. Valeria nodded at his question. "Yes. I haven't been in Prythian in over 500 years. I was caught on the wrong side of the wall", she said casually with a shrug, this time taking a much larger sip of her wine. "Anyways... Now I'm just trying to get reacquainted with being around other Fae again, but it's difficult. And different." She wasn't lying there, not really anyways. She had added 100 years to herself but the rest was true. She didn't know how to behave around Fae again and it was strange to see so many of them after all this time.
Valeria sighed. "I guess that's why I wanted to be in here instead of outside where all the celebrating is." That was also the truth. She didn't mind telling him this, seeing that there was nothing about it that he could use against her. She was dead to the world, so there was no harm in acting like it.

"I've never met anyone called Mara before," he grinned. Soren gave a short pause, "w-wait. What?" He wasn't sure if he had heard her correctly, but he must have. There was no mistaking what she had said. "You've been living with the humans this whole time? Why couldn't you just come back?" He wondered, he had never known anyone who lived in the mortal lands. He sighed, "500 years is a long time to live with mortals. But really, not much has changed around here. Except for the whole... Hybern thing that is." Soren tried to smile at that. He didn't miss the part where she had evaded his question. He wanted to ask again, perhaps in a different way. But he didn't want to seem like he was prying, he was just curious. Besides, didn't he have the right to be? With a stranger in his lands? TAGS: Valeria

Valeria stared at Soren for a longer time that she expected herself to. She blinked. Not once, not twice, but three times, until she laughed at his question. For several minutes, Valeria just laughed at his question. For a next-to-be High Lord, he wasn't too clever. She coughed away the phlegm and looked at him as soon as she managed to calm herself down. "There was no such thing as "come back" the first 300 years", she explained to him while shaking her head. "The wall became weaker after centuries but at first there was no point in even trying to breach it, so I gave up. The only thing I could do was keep my hair long enough so that the humans never noticed the pointy ears that they do not have." Valeria shook her head with a sigh. The Prince was older than her yet he seemed so much younger. Someone that protected and guarded, there was only failure ahead of him.
Ria grinned and chugged down the rest of the bottle before holding out the other for him to grab. "Ya want some?" she grinned, feeling the buzz and the slight but ignorable headache finally reach her immortal body. "It's really good wine. Got it from the best brewery", Valeria said before she uncorked it and took a sip. "What about Hybern though? Last I heard, we won and Hybern went back to where they came from."

"I'm sorry, I can't even begin to imagine what that must have been like for you," he replied. What would that have been like for him, he wondered. He'd lost his mother and father centuries ago. But he still had his uncle who treated him as if he were good own son. He couldn't imagine living without him or any of the people he'd come to call friends, let alone living among those not your own kind. "It must have been difficult knowing how much they hated us, and pretending you were one of them," Soren said sadly. "Did you ever become close to any of them?" He wondered how that would work when everyone she could become close to would just die in a few years. The mortal life passed in the blink of an eye for faes. Soren shook his head. "I have to go home soon, it wouldn't be wise," he thought about seeing his uncle again after all these months away. He wouldn't want to know that his heir was drinking when he was supposed to be coming home to report on his visits to the other courts. "Hybern is gone," he said with a relieved sigh, as if saying it again made it that much more unbelievable. After all these years, he was gone. "I think we're going to have many years of peace now. But first, we have to rebuild. Dawn Court isn't too bad, but some of the other courts..." He swallowed down the grief and felt a shiver run down his back. "What Court did you call home? Perhaps I had help you, maybe reach out to any family you have?" Tag: Valeria

Valeria looked down and shrugged, fixing her attention on the bottle. She didn't want his pity nor did she want to talk about it. Her eyes shot back up when he mentioned the humans. She couldn't help but smile a little. Some of the places she'd visited hadn't been too bad. "Some of them didn't at first. But then their entire land forgot and by the time this second war occurred, we were more like myths you know?" Val took a sip from the wine, only to choke on it a second later. She stared at Soren, her mouth feeling all dry and the slight headache now pounding instead of being discreet. She never let herself remember and there had never been anyone to remind her. "No", she answered abruptly, pushing down every last one of memories, returning herself to her haze. Ria laughed next. "How old are you anyways?" she asked, even though she already knew. Her hand clasped around her mouth. "Ohhh, please don't tell me you're in your first century?!" Valeria gasped, enjoying herself way too much. "What a little babyyyy", she said, slightly pouting her lips. Ria chuckled again before she once again took to the bottle. She listened to him intently this time. She frowned at his words. She wanted to go home yes, but it wasn't the right time. She didn't know how to face her brother. So she ended up shaking her head. "They're dead. Former Winter Court, but I don't know how to go back. So much has changed", Valeria said with a shrug.

Her answer came so quickly that he felt she wanted to hide something, or perhaps just forget. He didn't know what it was like to be human, he suppose they were similar in many ways. Such as that they experience as much as Faes. Even in their short lives. Soren didn't press any further. It would be rude and he knew all too well that sometimes pain had to buried deep inside you so that you could live. One day at a time. It had been centuries since he lost his parents, but that was how he got through it. One day at a time. He winced at her mocking him. "I'm four hundred and twenty, actually," he defended. He didn't like that she was making fun of him, in his youth everyone coddled him. It took centuries for anyone to take him seriously. Though even now he is still treated like a child sometimes. "And how old are you? You said you haven't been in Prythian in over five hundred years, how old were you when you were caught on the other side of the wall?" Soren looked down, feeling slightly ashamed for what he reason he didn't know. "I'm sorry," he said. He didn't know what else to say. "A little has changed," he said. "Humans live such short lives, but accomplish so much. Our lives are so long sometimes I feel like I'm just standing still. A little has changed, but at the same time a lot..." He sighed. "If you have no place to stay, perhaps I can offer you to be my guest?" He wasn't sure what made him say it, but the words rolled out of his tongue as if he'd intended to ask her all along. Valeria looked at him underneath her lashes, though her full attention was focused on the bottle in her hand. She took another swig before putting it down on the table with a thud. "Oops", she said, followed by a shrug. She noticed him tense up a little bit, but not enough for her to get alarmed. "14", she told him casually when he asked how old she'd been. It was partly true. She'd been 14 when her world had turned upside down. " My mom died shortly after, humans killed her and then it was just me." Once again, it was truth by modification. She wasn't even sure why she told him. There was something about him that made it all too easy to talk and the alcohol wasn't exactly hindering her. Ria couldn't help but laugh. "A little? I came back to hear about something called a high lady. Apparently a human turned Fae is now high lady of the night court. I'd say a lot of our customs has changed", Valeria said. She'd wondered about her ever since Tamlin told her about it. The disdain in his voice had been enough to tell her that this female was quite something. The only thing she really cared about knowing was about her brother, but it wasn't a question that she could ask anyone. "Your guest?" Her brows shot up. "Where would that be?" Ria kept up the charade. Until he verbally introduced himself as the prince, she was going to act as absolutely clueless to who he might be.

A shiver ran up his spine. 14. She had been 14 when she was left on the other side of the wall. For humans, 14 was of age for many things. Humans and their short lives. But for the fae. 14 was young. She was merely a child. All that time by herself in a world she didn't know. Soren licked his lips, trying not to show his emotions. But when she told him about her mother, he looked down. He couldn't bare to look at her. Was it pity he felt for her? He wasn't sure, but an immense sadness weighed in his heart. "I'm..." he shook his head. There was nothing he could say. Nothing at all that could help or make things better for her or change anything that had happened. "You've been through a lot." He looked at her then, a thin smile pulled at his face. "Feyre," he said the name quietly as if it held some power. As if it said too loudly, the earth would shake at the sound of her name. Perhaps it would. She was some unknown, powerful entity. He didn't know her personally, but he heard enough. Soren hadn't thought about his suggestion fully. He couldn't very well tell her a lie now. The truth was going to come out. "The castle," he said, his eyes gauging hers. "I'm the High Lord's nephew-- adopted son." Tag: Valeria
